On July 11, 2007 the renowned Zum Stammtisch Restaurant of Glendale, New York held its 9th annual golf outing at the Forest Park Golf Links. The golf course is hidden from view among the many one hundred year old trees that surround Forest Park. Playing on the course the golfer gets the feeling that he has traveled far from the urban setting of western Queens. Indeed the Zum Stammtisch Golfers had the feeling of euphoria because their generosity raised 4 thousand dollars for charity. Pictured above are the proprietor of the famous Zum Stammtisch Restaurant Werner J. Lehner and Sister Betty from T.O.P.S. displaying a replica of the four thousand dollar check that was donated to T.O.P.S. FOR YOU (Time, Opportunity, Peace and Service for you).
Along with ordinary day care center activities, the charity provides a sanctuary for children and young mothers that have been the victims of domestic violence. The children are cared for while the mothers go out to work or further their education. Presently there are approximately 500 children being cared for from Glendale, Ridgewood and surrounding areas. This is indeed a most worthy charity addressing a need that society tends to overlook.
