Dear Maspeth High School Community,
As many of you have seen, all across the country and within New York City there has been a drastic increase in the number of hate crimes and use of discriminatory language against members of the Asian American community. We condemn these senseless acts and the actions of anyone that stands against the belief that all people – regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or religion – have the right to feel safe and be treated with respect. We understand and recognize these attacks have left many members of our school community feeling anxious, scared, upset and uneasy. Please know that our staff, including our guidance department consisting of counselors, social workers and school psychologists are here to support any and all students who may be experiencing difficulty and concerns related to these recent events. We stand in full support of the Asian American community and will continue this dialogue through counseling groups, push in lessons and various discussions to be held through-out the year to come utilizing the “Stop Asian Hate” Education Resources provided by the Chancellor’s office.
Sincerely, Maspeth High School
