Brooklyn Eagle March 29, 1898 • Frederick Kalfur who brought suit through his father Frederick Kalfur, against the old horse car line the Broadway Ferry and Metropolitan Avenue Railroad Company for $50,000 for the loss of his right leg by being run over when he was 19 months old, obtained a verdict yesterday afternoon in Supreme Court, part 2, before Justice Gaynor, for $15,000. The line passed through Middle Village, Queens County and the boy was playing in the street when the car came along and ran over him. Afterward his leg was amputated above the knee. The plaintiff, through Lawyer Charles J. Patterson, alleged negligence of the horse car driver, while the defendant denied the negligence alleged and set up as defense negligence of the parents; and also of the boy in getting on the tracks.
