Brooklyn Eagle, May 6, 1877 The swamps in the Town of Newtown are giving up their dead, under the force of the spring. Only a few days ago the dead body of a man who had been missing from East Williamsburgh for a fortnight was found in a swamp at Glen Dale. On Thursday the dead body of an infant was found in a swamp in the rear of Wendie’s Hotel at Middle Village. It was apparently a month old and had been in this water for six or eight weeks. Death was caused by strangulation before the body sunk in the swamp. It partook of the more revolting features of the double infanticide at Amityville. The Coroner’s jury did not trace the crime to the perpetrator.
