New York Times February 7, 1939 • The body of Mrs. Winifred Rex, 34 years old, of 65-07 Seventy-seventh Place, Middle Village, Queens, was found early yesterday morning beside the Long Island Railroad tracks on the trestle over Woodhaven Boulevard near the Rego Park Station after she had been struck by a passing train and killed. The police said she had probably committed suicide.

It was noticed by John Hampton, motorman of the Rockaway-bound train. Hampton applied the brakes, but was unable to bring the train to a stop before it reached the body. It was believed, however, that the woman had been struck by an earlier train. He notified the police. The body was identified at the morgue.

Mrs. Rex, a former schoolteacher in Middle Village, had been missing from her home since 10 o’clock Sunday evening. Her husband, Merle, found three notes in which she indicated an intention of ending her life, and the police said she had threatened to do so during a telephone conversation with her mother in Danbury, Conn.
