At the October 25th meeting of CURES (Civics United for Rail Environmental Solutions) of which the Juniper Park Civic Assn. is a founding member, elected officials agreed to form a rail task force to deal with the many issues facing the communities of Middle Village, Maspeth and Glendale. As rail traffic increases so do the problems for residents living close to the local rail corridor. Glendale residents have several noise and pollution issues emanating from the New York & Atlantic Fresh Pond Road rail yard. Middle Village residents have noise issues of trains idling, switching and coupling at all hours of the night and early morning. All of the communities are dealing with the increased transport of solid waste – garbage. Attending the meeting with civic leaders were State Senator Joe Addabbo, Assembly Members Andy Hevesi & Mike Miller and City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley.
