At long last, the sign at the Garlinge Memorial Park in Maspeth has been corrected! After the last edition of the Juniper Berry was published, we worked with Parks Dept. Deputy Administrator Matthew Symons.

For years, the fallen hero’s last name had mistakenly been spelled Walter “Garlinger” when his actual name was Walter Garlinge. Symons had a new park sign created in time for Memorial Day and is also working on an historical sign that will more accurately explain Garlinge’s sacrifice during WWI.
