The afternoon of Sunday, October 6 a man with a boxcutter menaced some boys playing basketball at Middle Village Playground, which is two blocks north of the Cooper Avenue Rapid Rehousing Center. The man was arrested, and it was discovered that he in fact was a shelter resident. In total, there have been 1257 calls to 911 from the shelter address and 8 deaths since the shelter opened in 2020. Year to date (January-mid October), there have been 491 calls to 911. Our already thin police resources are being stretched to the breaking point by this shelter, locals continue to be victimized by its residents and it need to be closed.
