The United States Navy’s Blue Angels and Unites States Air Force’s Thunderbirds participated in “Operation America Strong” over New York City on April 28th. The 12 planes started the flight at the George Washington Bridge at noon, made their way down the Hudson River, flew around Newark, NJ and Staten Island then up the East River. They veered right, passing just north of Maspeth to fly by Elmhurst Hospital. After passing over Nassau and Suffolk Counties, they looped back over Long Island Sound, Connecticut, Westchester County and down the East River to the Verrazano Bridge, where they ended their run. It was something that many health care workers appreciated, and brought a bit of excitement to those who had been cooped up in their homes since mid-March. Photo by Phil Hickey.
