On July 13th Kevin K. Surdi died at the age of 57. Mr. Surdi along with Bob Holden helped bring back the Midville Dodgers in 1997. Surdi coached several Midville teams and even helped host baseball teams from Russia in an exchange program with RGMVMLL. In 1998 he volunteered his time to conduct baseball clinics in St. Peterburg, Russia as part of the Midville Dodgers goodwill program.

He helped collect baseball equipment to bring to Russia to build their baseball program. In later years he formed the New York Mets Instructional Baseball Youth Program noted for its high level baseball camps. He most recently was a baseball coach for the Long Island Tigers organization. He passed away in July after a valiant and brave 10-year battle with prostate cancer. “Kevin was a dear friend, despite his illness he always maintained a cheerful outlook. No man was more dedicated to the game of baseball and it instruction than Kevin,” said Bob Holden.
