Newtown Historical Society hosted two Rob Jett-led bird walks this year, and both times rare birds managed to show up. In the spring, a Red-headed Woodpecker was seen, and on October 18, the group spotted a Western Kingbird. As you can see from the range map, this bird was a lot further east than it should have been. It was seen hawking for insects from headstones just up the hill from the entrance. After reports of this bird were made via apps and the internet, birders flocked to the cemetery to see the cooperative bird. The full bird list is below.
