In mid-August, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz issued a press release that contained a detailed list of park projects toward which she allocated funding in the 2016 budget. Curiously, among the list of projects was $300K for lighting at Four Freedoms State Park on Roosevelt Island, which is part of the borough of Manhattan. Missing from the list was funding for any park in Maspeth or Middle Village, which are two neighborhoods that were at one time included in her district when she was a member of the City Council.
