Jumaane Williams was elected to be our new Public Advocate in a February 26th special election to replace Letitia James who assumed the position of NYS Attorney General at the beginning of this year. Mr. Williams was previously a 3rd term New York City Council Member from Brooklyn representing the 45th District. He will serve as Public Advocate through the end of the year. The dumb part is that due to our crazy election laws, there will next be a primary for the Public Advocate position in June, with a general election to follow in November for the remainder of the term, which ends in 2021. The collection of petition signatures for the primary actually began on the day of the special election. Three low turnout elections for the same position in the same year sure sounds like a huge waste of time and money.
