Residents living on 81st Street, between the LIE and Eliot Avenue, and 82nd Street, between Eliot Avenue and Juniper Boulevard South after 50 years are getting new sewer and water mains installed. Three years ago after heavy flooding and several JPCA contentious town meetings, the city Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) finally agreed to study the situation and months later they agreed to fund the projects. This summer residents had to put up with noise, dirt, water and sewer disruptions but most everyone was willing to put up with a few months of inconveniences for new sewer lines.
