On Veterans Day, the Knockdown Center hosted a techno concert sponsored by Honda Stage. The concert itself was alcohol free, but a catering permit from an outside vendor allowed for liquor to be served to those entering the VIP tent. There was a large police presence inside, but the problems were mainly outside. Patrons began lining up at 11am and by the 7:45pm start time the queue consisted of thousands of people and stretched down 54th Street. Those in line were urinating in the street. The parking situation was a disaster. Residents found concertgoers’ discarded trash dumped in front of their houses. Other bad behaviors by obviously intoxicated patrons were observed, and this was before they even set foot inside the confines of the Knockdown Center. Assembly Member Catherine Nolan is discussing these issues with the NYPD, Department of Buildings and State Liquor Authority.
