New York State has finalized its list of “disadvantaged com- munities” to be targeted for extra funding and cleanup in a multibillion-dollar climate plan. The census tracts identified by the state’s Climate Justice Working Group in our area include tracts along Newtown Creek, the Long Island Expressway and Fresh Pond Railyard. Whether these areas in actuality receive funding for improvements remains to be seen.
