NYC’s Economic Development Corporation has finally seen the light regarding using the city’s waterways to transport goods. The agency recently issued a request seeking an engineering firm to design docks where smaller, more environmentally vehicles, like cargo bikes, would transfer the goods from barges to complete the deliveries. The locations include one each in the Bronx and Brooklyn and 3 in Manhattan. The EDC has estimated that this could potentially take 6000+ trucks off the streets. JPCA has long advocated for waterway transport rather than the boondoggle Cross Harbor Tunnel that would see our area inundated with thousands more trucks, mostly serving other neighborhoods.
