36-year-old Luis Hernandez of 56th Street in Maspeth was taken into custody January 12 by police by Transit District 34 in Brooklyn after he was stopped for smoking in a subway station. They discovered that he was wanted in connection to a gang-related killing on the night of Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020 in Long Island City. And progressives want cops out of the subway and minor crimes to be unenforced.
23-year-old Enrique Lopez of Far Rockaway had been arrested January 16 for allegedly stealing a 2023 Acura in Middle Village. He was released without bail. The weekend of January 20, he was allegedly doing stunts in a stolen car in the Bronx when he slammed into a truck, killing two of his passengers and putting a third in critical condition.
An incident involving migrants assaulting police officers in Times Square on January 27 went viral nationwide, especially after the assailants were released without bail. One of those charged, 19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, was allegedly also part of a group that robbed the Macy’s department store inside the Queens Center Mall of $800 in merchandise and roughed up a security guard on February 13. While the criminal is dumb, even dumber are our bail reform and immigration policies which encourage crimes like these to happen.
