Mayor de Blasio postponed the Queens Borough President special election on March 15 during the height of the COVID crisis. It was originally rescheduled for June 23rd. Governor Andrew Cuomo then signed an executive order on April 24th that cancelled that election because it conflicted with the primaries for the same office (due to a quirk in election law, both a special election and general election were originally required). Although James Quinn had originally planned to run on the Republican line in the November general election, he ultimately decided not to and Queens GOP Chair Joann Ariola will run instead. The candidates running in the June primary are Elizabeth Crowley, Costa Costantinides, Donovan Richards, Dao Yin and Anthony Miranda.
