Setting up shop on a public sidewalk or in a city park without a permit is prohibited. We frequently see pop-up roadside art shops in the area (and the art is pretty cheesy). On Queens Blvd, fruit vendors set up outside the subway. Be very wary of these people trying to make a quick buck. You could get swindled or, in the case of food, sick – and then you’d have a hard time finding the person to blame after they pack up and leave as they may not come back.
