DOT has awarded a $7.2 million contract to the Parsons Transportation Group for the “reconstruction of the Metropolitan Avenue Bridge/CSX.” This bridge/tunnel runs from behind the Metropolitan M train station to the corner of 69th Street and Juniper Valley Road. It is very old and in need of repair and the agency is studying how to go about doing that. A more detailed study will be completed over the coming year and by the end of 2019 DOT hopes to have begun the design process with construction commencing in 2021. Similar to the situation in Kew Gardens, there is a row of small businesses next to the Metropolitan Avenue subway station which hopefully can be accommodated during construction.
