Businesses in western Maspeth in the vicinity of 48th Street and 55th Avenue have suffered from power outages due to transformer explosions 3 times over the past few months. The first outage occurred in late 2017, the second in January 2018 and the most recent was this past April 4th. Con Ed claims their equipment is well maintained and blames harsh weather, but local business owners are skeptical after having found corrosion and rust on pieces of Con Ed equipment.
