A few years ago, the sign marking Garlinge Park on Grand Ave. was stolen. After many calls and letters to the Parks Dept we almost were going to give up until we enlisted the help of Assemblyman Barnwell and in less than a month the sign was restored. The park also has a street clock that has been broken for long stretches or has to be corrected for time changes but Parks Dept. has to go outside the department and it takes more time to fix. Garlinge Park has a memorial to the Maspeth residents who died in WW1 and is where the Memorial Day Parade begins. – Richard Polgar
