The L train tunnel under the East River sustained major damage during Hurricane Sandy and required extensive repairs. In April 2019, the project began and was scheduled to end in July 2020 and cost $500M. We’re happy to report that the MTA wrapped up the project in April and came in $100M under budget. Service is still reduced due to COVID, but once the city is back up and running again, the L train will be ready for the rush.
