The green space at 61st Street and Grand Avenue, installed as a safety precaution for pedestrians walking through the area, was completed in November. This is part of the “Safe Streets to School” initiative undertaken by the Department of Transportation. The existing greenstreet triangle was eliminated (below), and a bumped out sidewalk was instead installed on 57th Drive at 61st Street. Now drivers have only one way to go if they want to drive down 57th Drive, and the kids heading to St. Stan’s and Grand Avenue and 61st Street bus stops will be more visible.
