Please be advised that in consultation with the MTA, NYC DOT’s Bus Stop Management team will begin swapping out specific panels at bus stops throughout Queens on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in support of the Queens Bus Network Redesign. To support this effort and to minimize customer confusion, the MTA will also be installing Guide-A-Ride (GAR) inserts noting that bus service will not change until this summer (example attached).
Stay up to date on Queens bus service by signing up for MTA service alerts. We offer real-time notifications for every bus route via email or SMS, as well as occasional updates on major service changes. This is also the best way to get updates on major milestones for Queens Bus Network Redesign implementation prior to June 29. Sign up now at mta.info/notify.
No service changes due to the Redesign will go into effect until June 29, 2025. The second phase of implementation will take place on August 31, 2025.
Bus Stop Panel Changes Beginning February 18:
In order for NYC DOT Bus Stop Management to complete the necessary bus stop changes by QBNR Phase 1 Implementation on June 29, 2025, bus stop changes must begin as soon as possible.
Work orders were submitted to NYC DOT Bus Stop Management after the MTA Board voted to approve the Proposed Final Plan Addendum on January 29, 2025.
While we need to start this work in February, it is being phased to limit confusion to bus operations and the public. These include adjustments to route type and installing bus stop panels for routes not currently in operation.
Some examples are below:
• Q4 Local/Limited panels being changed to Q4 Rush panels
• Q51 panels being added to bus stops (new service)
• Q114 panels being changed from Limited to Rush
We are working carefully to limit confusion to the public while also limiting the times NYC DOT would have to visit individual bus stops to make changes so that they can meet the June 29 deadline.
Major corridors, stops with panel removals, and transit hubs like Jamaica and Flushing will have changes occur in spring and early summer to minimize rider confusion as much as possible.
No changes to service will occur before June 29, 2025. The second phase of implementation will take place on August 31, 2025.
New inserts in all Guide-a-Ride boxes will provide links to project information and underscore that changes to bus routes will not occur until June 29, 2025. The Guide-a-Ride inserts have a QR code for customers to learn more about the upcoming changes in multiple languages (sample attached).
As this process continues and busier bus stops begin to have changes, more specific signage will be installed at impacted stops to provide additional information on the changes that are occurring.
