In the March 2014 edition of the Juniper Berry, it was reported that the Dept of Transportation was revising plans for the replacement of the bridge over the LIRR tracks at Metropolitan Avenue and Fresh Pond Road and that was expected to take about a year. Here it is September 2015, and there have been no updates from the DOT or LIRR about the project. The intersection remains a major blight on the community, now with metal plates on the sidewalk along the western side of Fresh Pond Road.
