NYS was required to redraw its gerrymandered assembly district maps per a judge’s ruling. The 2024 maps are out, and the results aren’t any better. As it stands, District 30, currently represented by Steven Raga, is being drawn out of Maspeth completely and includes only a small portion of Middle Village. District 37, currently represented by Juan Ardila, has been redrawn to include most of Maspeth and the northern half of Middle Village along with Sunnyside and part of Astoria. Meanwhile, everything else is being lumped into a completely revamped District 38 that stretches through LIC, Greenpoint, Maspeth, Ridgewood, Glendale and Rego Park. This is obviously not a good scenario for anyone. The NYS Independent Redistricting Commission is accepting public testimony. E-mail comments to submissions@nysirc.gov.
