Ludwig Haidt, principal of the German Lutheran school at Middle Village, L. I., and also a teacher in the Sunday school of the Lutheran Church in that place, is in trouble that appears to have a very serious aspect. An order has been issued for his arrest on complaint of Jacob Sutter, a marble cutter, also a resident of Middle Village, who has begun suit against Haidt for $10,000. In his affidavit Sutter tells a sad story, the sequel to which is just recorded.

He alleged that Miss Louisa Sutter, aged seventeen years, his daughter, was a teacher in the same Sunday school at which Haidt taught. Haidt was attentive to her, but neither the young lady nor her father felt that his attentions were more than those of pure, interested friendship.

On the 17th of December last year, Haidt told Miss Sutter to come to the schoolhouse, pretending that school would meet in the afternoon. The young lady, believing him, went, and Haidt accomplished her ruin.
No steps were taken until the present time, the girl’s friends probably being unwilling to publish her shame, and on that account Haidt’s alleged villainy found shelter under the cloak of the family’s feeling. On July 8 Miss Sutter fell from a cherry tree on her father’s premises, was removed to her home and there her child was prematurely born. From the shock received she never recovered, and her death resulted on Thursday last. The physician who attended her refused to give a death certificate and the coroner has ordered a post-mortem.

Ludwig Haidt is a man of fifty-five years of age, has a wife and six children and was a respected resident of the little village which is now stirred to its center by the revelation of his alleged perfidy. France’s hotel, near the Bushwick Junction station of the Long Island Railroad, was burglarized, and a cemetery headstone has been stolen from Stockinger’s monument yards on Metropolitan Avenue between Bushwick Junction and Mount Olivet Avenue.

It is said the police of the Glendale precinct, with their small force of men, are unable to cope with the situation. The thieves are evidently taking advantage of the fact that all the available police are detailed evenings to the different political mass meetings.
