Con Edison plans to put power lines underground in a Middle Village area with high tree density in an effort to prevent power outages after strong storms. The $4M project is already under construction in the area surrounding the intersection of Juniper Valley Road and 77th Street. The targeted location currently serves 495 customers and in the past 10 years saw a total of 19 outages with over 8,000 customers adversely impacted. The lines being installed have a special coating which will make them resistant to road salt corrosion.
