We were all kind of taken by surprise before our September meeting by the news that extra lanes would be added to the Long Island Expressway starting in our area and stretching all the way out to Little Neck. This seemed like it was going to be years of construction headaches, and what would become of our lovely planted areas along the sides of the highway? Governor Hochul’s press release was vague and raised a lot of questions. We asked Neil Giannelli from Senator Addabbo’s office to delve into the subject. He reported back to us at our meeting that the project does not involve Maspeth at all. “It’s fake news,” he said. The roadwork is taking place miles east of here and has more to do with lane reconfiguring than actual construction. The moral of the story here is you can’t necessarily trust news from “official” sources.
