A section of the parking lot at CVS located at 61-15 Metropolitan Avenue seems to be collapsing. It is in a bad location in the entryway, which causes traffic to swerve around it. As a bonus, it’s part of a previously repaired bridge over the LIRR which makes it even more concerning. The cave-in started about a year ago when they just had a traffic cone there and then it slowly progressed.
Community Board 5 District Manager Gary Giordano said the CVS manager informed him that the LIRR put the wood over the hole and erected the barricades, and, to his knowledge repair of the hole in the freight rail bridge deck is the responsibility of the LIRR. Gary then reached out to CB5’s LIRR contact, and was informed by them that repairs are the responsibility of the property owner.
Property owner Keith Kantrowitz told the Queens Chronicle that the work will be completed when the weather warms. Until that time, please be careful as you enter and leave. As can clearly be seen, others have not been.
