The theft of mail from a mailbox located at 74 Street and Caldwell Avenue caused concern over identity theft and access to bank accounts early this year. The theft occurred from 1pm to 2pm on January 3rd when a female removed numerous pieces of mail from this location. She subsequently forged checks and attempted to cash them in a local bank. The 104th Pct. alerted the Juniper Park Civic Association that anyone who placed mail at that location should stop payment on any checks. The JPCA posted the warning and started telephoning and texting members living in the surrounding area.

Meagan Corno (photo) of Middle Village, was arrested for allegedly attempting to cash more checks stolen from the mailbox. According to police records, she has been arrested 11 times. Three times in 2017. Most of her arrests are for possession of a controlled substance.

On February 1st, due to numerous community complaints, the 104 Pct Traffic Team conducted a tow operation to address illegally parked and unlicensed vehicles in and around Flushing Avenue in Maspeth. The team towed 11 cars, 3 tow trucks, and issued 15 summonses. This is a example of how the community and police working together can solve various issues.
