A 57-year-old man lost his life in mid-January after being hit by an SUV operated by an unlicensed driver. The victim was crossing Metropolitan Avenue at Rentar Plaza at around 7:45pm on January 13th when he was struck by the Cadillac Escalade. Police found him lying in the roadway after responding to a 9/11 call and he was transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital but could not be saved. The victim’s name has not been released. The driver, a Middle Village man, remained on the scene and was taken into custody for driving without a license. More needs to be done to crack down on reckless and unlicensed driving. Unfortunately, instead of focusing on this, the city seems obsessed with eliminating parking spaces.
