Not all neighborhoods are considered equal here in New York City. During the height of the Omicron wave during the holidays, testing locations and at home testing kit distribution sites were few and far between in our area. City run sites were set up throughout the borough and the city, but none in Maspeth, Middle Village, Glendale, or Ridgewood. Council Member Robert Holden requested a site be placed in his district and was told that the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity determined that this area was not a priority due to its demographics. This left the council member and other electeds to scramble to provide testing at their offices. COVID, especially the Omicron variant, hit every corner of the city and to deny a testing location for a communicable disease based on race is discriminatory and just plain dumb.
