The New York City Council voted themselves a 32% pay raise on February 5th. This will boost their current $112,500 salary to $148,500. The pay raise legislation limits the council membersโ€™ outside income and eliminates the bonuses that most members receive for chairing committees, measures which are considered โ€œreformsโ€. Polls indicate that the majority of NYC believes that the council members were already paid too much before the vote, and we donโ€™t know of any other profession where an employee can elect to give themselves a raise.
