There have been quite a few thefts from vehicles in the area. Most have occurred in different parts of Ridgewood, but a few have occurred in Maspeth. There have been at least 25 thefts from autos this year as of February 3rd. Some of the vehicles had their windows broken, while some victims may have left their vehicle doors unlocked.
Some of the items that were stolen included cash, iPods / iPads, cellphones, GPS devices and even clothing.
The 104th Precinct encourages all residents to lock their vehicle doors and to not leave items of value inside their vehicles.
Many of these thefts from autos are crimes of opportunity. This is especially the case if a criminal sees something of value sitting inside the vehicle.
The 104th Precinct has increased marked patrols and unmarked patrols in the areas where these thefts have occurred. In addition the 104th Detective Squad is actively investigating these thefts from vehicles. If you see any suspicious persons in and around vehicles please call 911.
