From May 9th-10th, a Wild Turkey hen made its presence known at Juniper Valley Park and its surroundings. Despite a popular 1980s TV show popularizing a line, “As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!” the truth is that Wild Turkeys can fly, but only short
distances at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. This one was also spotted at one point on the roof of a nearby home, probably to stay safe from predators. Thought of as fall birds, turkeys will move around in the spring in search of food. Photo by Caroline D. Roswell.
