Council Members Holden and Ariola have co-sponsored a bill which would grant the Department of Transportation the authority to install and maintain tree guards on city property. Tree guards are mini-fences installed along the sides of tree pits, to provide a physical barrier between a tree and the goings-on nearby so that the tree may be better protected from physical damage and dog waste. Currently tree guards are only placed by the city if private citizens or businesses donate toward the installation.
