Ex-hospital horror
St. John’s Queens Hospital was converted into condos more than a decade ago, but the upkeep has been less than stellar. The back of the building is covered in graffiti and building management is not cleaning it. Security also seems to be lacking since the building gets tagged repeatedly.
Freeway free-for-all
The NYS DOT is responsible for the graffiti on its structures, including this LIE overpass. It doesn’t take much time or effort to spray this clean, but it seems to always be overlooked. Maybe our state reps can get something going so we don’t have to keep looking at this mess.
Call the cleaning crew
The corner of Fresh Pond Road and Metropolitan Avenue has frequently been featured here. This former phone booth is an eyesore, as is the litter that accumulates along the LIRR bridge. Graffiti is beginning to appear again as well. As we wait for a master plan to beautify the area, some simple fixes are in order.
Thankfully, the vast majority of property owners and residents in Middle Village & Maspeth take pride in the appearance and well-being of our neighborhood. But a few have a total disregard for our area. So we induct them into this month’s Hall of Shame.
