Governor Cuomo has categorized certain areas as yellow, orange or red zones based on increasing COVID positivity rates. The Rego Park-Forest Hills area was orange at one point, with a radius around it that was in the yellow zone, including Middle Village. The yellow zone was eventually extended to Maspeth. This meant restrictions on businesses, which were already operating at 25% capacity. As we go to press, a large swath of Queens is in the yellow zone. The US Supreme Court struck down Cuomo’s draconian restrictions on houses of worship after the Brooklyn Diocese and the Jewish congregation of Agudath Israel sued the state for violating the First Amendment. The court found that the limits imposed should have been a percentage of their capacity, to match restrictions on open businesses.
