JPCA is proud to present its 2020 Hero Award to Firefighter Patrick Conway of FDNY Squad 288 in Maspeth. Conway has been an FDNY member since 2007 and has been assigned to Squad 288 for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he was a member of the NYPD. He married his wife, Lisa Marie, in 2013 and they have two young daughters. Last month, Patrick went above and beyond the call of duty in subduing a dangerous criminal. 

The morning of August 17, a Maspeth man had been stabbed by his roommate while he slept. Bleeding from the leg, he ran into the firehouse at 68th Street and Borden Ave. Firefighters brought the wounded man into the firehouse and were tending to his injury when his attacker arrived on the scene with a knife and made a threatening move. 

That’s when Pat Conway sprang into action, grabbing and holding the suspect until 104^th Precinct officers arrived. His police training certainly helped in this circumstance. 

Daniel Gomez, 27, was arrested for assault. The victim was transported to Elmhurst Hospital and was expected to make a full recovery. The NYPD reported that Gomez had three outstanding warrants against him, so hopefully he’ll stay locked up for a while. 

The morning of September 3^rd, JPCA President Tony Nunziato and First VP John Killcommons, who is a retired member of the FDNY, visited Squad 288 to present Patrick Conway with the JPCA Hero Award plaque. 

The inscription reads, “The Hero Award is hereby given to Patrick Conway, FDNY Squad 288, in grateful appreciation of your heroism on August 17, 2020 and continued service to the City Of New York. Juniper Park Civic Association, September 2020.”
