Last October, Council Member Robert Holden told JPCA that a strong proposal for a shelter had been presented to the City’s Department of Homeless Services for 78-16 Cooper Avenue. Work has been ongoing at the former factory under permits for office space. On August 22, the council member stated that he was told by DHS that a proposal for a shelter for 200 working men at the site was moving forward. The social services contractor is Westhab. The council member said that he is working with local leaders on a plan to fight the shelter. The Glendale-Middle Village Coalition held a fundraiser on July 27th at Yer Man’s to cover legal and other associated costs. JPCA president Tony Nunziato (aka “Anunziata”) donated two plants as well as a plant & nut basket. There will be a CB5 hearing dedicated to this issue on October 7th at 7:30pm at Christ the King High School and Town Hall meetings hosted by the council member in the future.
